Alesya Vidov was victorious in her first two matches of the day at the Wilson/ITA Western Regional Championships at Barnes Tennis Center. With her pair of wins, she secured a spot in the round of 16, which begin on Saturday morning.

In the first round, the sophomore from Russia faced UC Riverside's Michelle Beyronneaeu and won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.

Vidov's second round opponent was Joslynn Burkett from Arizona State. Similar to the first round, Vidov defeated Burkett by a final score of 6-2, 6-3.

In other singles, main draw action, junior Dita Hauerlandova won her round of 64 match, 6-3, 7-6(3), over Long Beach State's Rachael Porsz. But in the next round, Hauerlandova lost in two sets, 6-1, 6-4, to Pepperdine's Caroline Raba. Senior Indra Erichsen fell in the first round to UC Irvine's Becky Bernhard.

In the doubles main draw, the Aztecs suffered two defeats. The tournament's No. 4 seed of Hauerlandova/Erichsen lost to Mountain West Conference foe Smith/Zsiros of UNLV and the team of Eliska Krausova and Alesya Vidov were defeated, 8-5, by the No. 3 seed, Colalillo-Capannola of Arizona State.

The Wilson/ITA Western Regional Championships continues Saturday at Barnes Tennis Center with matches beginning at 9 a.m.
