SAN DIEGO - San Diego State saw its 13-match losing streak come to an end Friday night as it defeated visiting Wyoming, 3-1 (30-27, 29-31, 30-19, 30-22), in Peterson Gym. The Aztecs (1-13) got a balanced offensive effort as they evened their Mountain West Conference record at 1-1. The Cowgirls, meanwhile, fell to 8-6 overall as they suffered their first league defeat to fall to 2-1 in MWC play.

Four SDSU players finished the match in double figures in kills led by outside hitter Melissa Stapley with 17. The junior from Mesa, Ariz., also contributed nine digs and five service aces in the winning effort and finished with a team-high .351 hitting percentage.

In addition to Stapley, Kara Moriarty (16), Ashley Bowker (11) and Audra Dent (10) also reached double figures in kills. Wyoming also had four players in double figures, led by Sara Maytorena, who led all players with 18.

SDSU's .295 team attack percentage was its highest of the season and best since the season opener when it recorded a .235 percentage against Arizona.

The Aztecs out-played the Cowgirls at the net with 13 team blocks compared to UW's nine. Junior Ashley Bowker and freshman Lindsey Mahan had six apiece to pace SDSU. In addition to her six blocks, Bowker also hit .346 over the four games.

Setter Kristen Castillo recorded five kills and 10 digs, both representing SDSU career highs for the freshman from Torrance, Calif., while libero Aime Cordeiro chipped in with 18 digs. Cordeiro is averaging 4.8 digs per game over the last five matches and 5.29 dpg after two MWC contests.

San Diego State continues league play Saturday evening (Oct. 2) when it hosts ninth-ranked Colorado State at 7:00 p.m. in Peterson Gym.
