Arizona State Tops SDSU Women's Soccer, 3-0

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State women's soccer team jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second minute and never looked back en route to a 3-0 triumph over San Diego State at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Ariz. on Friday night. The Sun Devils improve their overall record to 4-5, while the Aztecs fell to 3-5-3.

Sophomore Katie Mahoney took a pass from junior Katie Leahy and drove the ball into the upper-right corner from 10 yards out to give Arizona State a 1-0 lead at the 1:41 mark.

Freshman Kira Sarkisian made it 2-0 in favor of the Sun Devils just before halftime (44:26) when she lofted a shot over the head of SDSU goalkeeper Sophia Perez from 20 yards away.

Arizona State went into intermission with an 8-1 lead in shots and a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Sun Devils scored their final goal 1:16 into the second half (46:16) when junior Brittany Cooper scored on a direct kick from 15 yards out.

Arizona State outshot the Aztecs, 15-6, for the game and finished with six corner kicks to SDSU's four.

Junior Amanda Swiader, and freshmen Tiphanie Elliott, Jessica Girdner and Lisa Nielsen each had one shot on goal to pace the Aztecs offensively.

Senior Sophia Perez played all 90 minutes and stopped four shots for SDSU.

The Aztecs will play host to No. 3 Washington on the SDSU Sports Deck at 1 p.m. Sunday.
