SAN DIEGO - The SDSU softball team will play host to a fall tournament this Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 23-24, at the SDSU Softball Field. The Aztecs will take on four local San Diego County schools, including the University of San Diego, UC San Diego, Point Loma Nazarene University and Palomar Junior College. The tournament will kick off at 8 a.m. Saturday, as Point Loma takes on USD.
The Aztecs finished their 2004 season with a 37-23 overall record and 14-6 in conference, taking second in the Mountain West. The Aztecs return Celena Velasquez, two-time MWC Pitcher of the Year, and Meagan Hartung, the Aztecs' second all-time leading hitter and an all-MWC selection in 2004.
Point Loma is coming off of a 2004 season in which it posted a 38-20 overall record and a 17-7 conference record, taking first in the Golden State Athletic Conference. PLNU was ranked 13th in the final NAIA poll of 2004.
The USD Toreros completed their 2004 season with an 18-32 overall record and were 5-15 in the Pacific Coast Softball Conference.
UCSD was 29-27 overall in 2004 and took third in the California Collegiate Athletic Association with a 22-14 record.
The Palomar Comets claimed their 19th consecutive Pacific Coast Conference title in 2004, with a 23-11-1 overall record, and a 14-1 record in conference play.
Admission to the San Diego Fall Tournament is free. The SDSU softball field is located at the end of Campanille Drive. Tournament games are exhibition events and do not count toward official season standings.
