SAN DIEGO - On a rare rainy Southern California day, the Lady Aztec Invitational kicked off Monday with the first two rounds at the par-72, 6,262-yard (The) Auld Course in Chula Vista, Calif. Teams got through the first 18 holes in just over five and a half hours and were unable to complete the second round due to darkness. San Diego State, the reigning tournament champion, is tied for sixth place with a first-round score of 304 (+16). The Aztecs are tied with the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB), while Baylor leads the 15-school field by seven strokes with a 291 (+3).

Freshman Anna Booth (Coffs Harbour, Australia) had the best performance of the day for SDSU, carding a career-best by three strokes with a 74 (+2) to tie for 12th overall. The Aztecs most consistent golfer this season, senior Veronica Ojeda (San Diego, Calif.), is just one stroke behind Booth with a 75. Sophomore Jamie Oliver (Los Alamitos, Calif.) is tied for 31st place with a first round 77 and seniors Megan Mulhaupt (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) and Toni Lutz (Anaheim, Calif.) posted identical scores of 78 (37th place).

Aztec freshman Jackie Kazarian (Dana Point, Calif.) and senior Cameron MacFarland (Issaquah, Wash.) are competing on an individual basis. Kazarian is tied for 49th with a 79 (+7), two strokes better than her best round earlier in the year, while MacFarland is tied for 70th with a 83 (+11) in her first action of 2004-05.

UAB's Brooke Mangan and Baylor's Sian Reddick are tied for the tournament individual lead, both shooting 70 (-2) in the first round. Brigham Young's Rachel Newren and Northern Arizona's Tiina-M. Peltokoski are each a stroke behind with matching scores of 71 (-1).

All but one group finished the second round, which will be completed Tuesday morning beginning at 8 a.m. Round three will follow shortly there after as the Lady Aztec Invite comes to a close.
