SAN DIEGO - Sophomore Jen Klunder scored on a header in the 77th minute to lift the San Diego State women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Wyoming at the SDSU Sports Deck on Friday afternoon. The Aztecs improved their Mountain West Conference record to 1-0-2 (4-6-5 overall), while the Cowgirls fell to 1-1 in MWC play (7-4-4 overall).

At the 76:56 mark, senior Noelle Jouglet sent a cross from the right side of the field where Klunder knocked in a well-placed header into the upper-right side of the net from 15 yards away. The goal was Klunder's second of the season and SDSU's first goal since Sept. 24.

The match was even throughout, with the Aztecs holding a 12-11 edge in shots and 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. Wyoming had 17 fouls to SDSU's 14 in a very physical game.

"It wasn't pretty," said first-year head coach Mike Giuliano. "But we'll take the win any day."

The Aztecs have not lost a regular season game in the MWC since Nov. 1, 2003, when they fell on the road to UNLV, 1-0.

Sophia Perez, who was named MWC Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, made five saves to earn her third consecutive and seventh shutout of the season. On the season, Perez is 4-5-5 with a 0.66 goals against average. Katherine Judkins is the SDSU single-season leader in GAA at 0.61 (1998).

The SDSU defense has now gone 384:44 without allowing a goal, its longest streak in the program's 16-year history.

The Aztecs had many opportunities to score, with the first chance coming in the 8th minute when Wyoming goalkeeper Ashley Sheppard blocked Klunder's left-footed shot from 15 yards out. Four minutes later, Sheppard stopped junior Ashley Cooper's breakaway chance when she deflected the shot to the right side and out of harm's way. Sheppard finished the match with six saves.

The Cowgirls best chance to score came with 22:45 left in the second half, when Mari Gomes' shot from 25 yards away hit the crossbar.

SDSU will continue its MWC homestand when they play host to New Mexico at the SDSU Sports Deck at 1 p.m. Sunday.
