SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's soccer team in conjunction with the Aztec Athletic Department have announced an opportunity for the community to attend this weekend's soccer matches for free. Fans should present their 2004 SDSU-Colorado State football ticket at the gate to gain free admission for games against first-place teams Wyoming (Friday) and New Mexico (Sunday) at the SDSU Sports Deck
Fans will also have an opportunity to win prizes at halftime of each game from Aztec sponsors, In-N-Out Burger, Chipotle, and Little Caesars.
The Aztecs (3-6-5, 0-0-2 Mountain West Conference) return home after recording consecutive scoreless ties at preseason favorites Brigham Young and Utah last weekend. SDSU has gone 296:44 without allowing a goal, thanks to a stingy defense and solid goalkeeping.
Senior goalkeeper Sophia Perez earned MWC Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors after recording back-to-back shutouts against the Cougars and Utes. On the season, Perez is 3-5-5 with 61 saves (tied for third in the MWC) in 1,264 minutes of action. She has six shutouts and a 0.71 goals against average (third in MWC). Katherine Judkins is the SDSU single-season leader in GAA at 0.61 (1998).
Senior Noelle Jouglet, juniors Alexis Solovij and Amanda Swiader and freshman Ashley Young have been standout defenders so far in 2004. Through 14 games, the Aztecs have given up just 14 goals which is the fewest allowed in the same span for a SDSU team since the 1998 squad gave up 10 goals to start their historic campaign. The 1998 Aztecs went on to finish the season with a 19-3-1 record and advanced to the third round of the NCAA tournament.
Kickoff for Friday's game against Wyoming (7-3-4, 1-0 MWC) is set for 3 p.m., while Sunday's contest versus New Mexico (5-6, 1-0 MWC) is slated to start at 1 p.m. Questions about this weekend's event should be directed toward SDSU Corporate Sales Representative Alice Tym at (619) 594-4285.
