SAN DIEGO - Aztecs Open 2004-05 Season At Home
* SDSU begins its schedule with a date against Loyola Marymount at the Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center. Saturday is the first of three consecutive home meets (Oct. 30, Nov. 3) and marks the 11th season of competition since the program was reinstated to varsity status in 1994.
Turning the Corner
* As head coach Deena Deardurff Schmidt enters her 11th year, she does so coming off the program's most successful three seasons since its reinstatement. Dating back to the 2001-02 season, the Aztecs have compiled a cumulative dual-meet record of 24-16 (.600). In the previous six years, SDSU went 27-44 (.380).
The Future Is Now
* This year's Aztec squad returns eight letterwinners from last year, but only two are seniors - Jennifer Arrow and Stephanie Chambers. The other returners include four sophomores and two juniors. Beyond those eight, SDSU welcomes eight freshmen and two junior college transfers to Montezuma Mesa. All 10 newcomers are expected to make an impact immediately.
1-0 Equals .500 Or Better
* In the last five dual-meet season openers, the Aztecs have gone 2-3, notching victories over Saturday's opponent Loyola Marymount in 1999, and Air Force in 2001. In both of those years, San Diego State has gone on to finish with a record of .500 or better. The 1999-00 team went 7-7, while the 2001-02 squad completed its most successful campaign under Deardurff Schmidt with a record of 10-3. The one exception came last year when the Aztecs lost at Utah and finished the season at 8-5.
SDSU vs. LMU Series History
* In the last five years the Aztecs have taken on the Lions six times, winning all six meetings (6-0) by an average of over 81 points. This season, SDSU competes against LMU twice, once in San Diego and once in Los Angeles.
