SAN DIEGO - San Diego State senior Aaron Choi fired rounds of 71 and 73 and is in 15th place at the William H. Tucker Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. on Friday.
Choi, who finished sixth at Opus NW Husky Invitational which concluded on Tuesday, is just two shots out of the top 10 entering Saturday's final round. The Aztec senior is even par after 36 holes and is one of just 19 players at even par or better.
One hundred golfers from 19 teams are participating in the 54-hole event. The tournament is being held on the par-72, 7,350-yard, University of New Mexico Championship Course.
San Diego State is 12th out of 19 teams after rounds of 296 and 294. The Aztecs are 14-over-par, two shots behind 11th-place New Mexico State and four shots in back of 10th-place Wichita State.
Arizona shot a remarkable 279 in the first round and coasted to a two-round total of 563, 13-under-par. The Wildcats are six shots clear of the field entering play on Saturday. Arizona also has the top individual player, as Henry Liaw is nine-under-par, one shot ahead of New Mexico's Spencer Levin.
