RIVERSIDE - In a tough and physical matchup on the campus of UC Riverside, San Diego State men's soccer came up on the losing end 2-0. With the loss, SDSU falls to 0-3 on the year, two of the losses coming against top-15 competition, while Riverside improves its record to 2-1.

In a first half dominated by the Highlanders, the Aztecs saw nine shots and two goals for UCR, while on the other end SDSU could only manage two shots, none coming on goal. Josh Valerio (13:16) and Luc Harrington (29:57) scored for Riverside.

SDSU came back with a vengeance in the second half, putting up nine shots, including two on target, but the team was unable to find the back of the net and close the gap. A few Aztecs had bright afternoons, as forwards Heath Creager and Trey Meek, along with midfielder Blake Perry, had three shots a piece. Perry and Meek also each had a shot on goal.

The Aztecs continue the early part of their 2004 season, taking on Michigan State at 4 p.m. on the SDSU Sports Deck in the opening game of the SDSU/USD tournament.
