CALIMESA, Calif. - San Diego State men's golf team concluded play at the UCLA Gold Rush Collegiate Showcase by shooting a 4-under-par round to place eighth (+6) in a field of 30. The Aztecs' "B" team followed with a 10th place finish with an overall tournament score of 14-over-par at PGA of Southern California Golf Course.
Junior Josh Warthen led the Aztecs individually with a three-round score of 2-under par which put him in a tie for 16th. Sophomore Chad Moscovic shot a 1-over par 73 in the final round to finish the tournament at even par and tied for 26th.
The low round of the day came from senior Aaron Choi (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines HS). Choi fired a 3-under-par 70, which was the second lowest score of the day, to finish in a tie for 36th at +2. Sophomores Chris Cole and Aaron Goldberg (Encinitas, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS) and senior Linus Nilsson shot even par rounds to pace the Aztecs.
Tournament host UCLA (-23) took the team title by shooting 12-under-par in the final round to finish 13 strokes ahead of second place finisher, Stanford University (-10). Individually, Travis Bertoni of Cal Poly held onto his first day lead and finished tied for first with UCLA's Peter Campbell, who shot a 4-under 68, at -11.
The Aztecs return to action Sept. 27-28, when they travel to Seattle, Wash.., for the Washington Husky Invitational.
