SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's golf team made up ground in the third and final round, finishing in a tie for 16th place with Northern Arizona Wednesday at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. The Aztecs shot a final round 310 (+18), improving six strokes in each of the final two days, to end up with a total score of 948 (+72) at the par-73, 6,096-yard University of New Mexico Championship Golf Course.

SDSU entered the day trailing Northern Arizona and UTEP by three strokes, but made up for it with its best performance of the tournament, highlighted by senior Veronica Ojeda's (San Diego, Calif.) third-round 74 (+1). Ojeda's 74 was the team's best round of the invitational and helped her jump from 79th into a tie for 63rd with teammate Anna Booth (Coffs Harbour, Australia), with a total score of 235 (+16).

Freshman Jackie Kazarian (Dana Point, Calif.) and senior Megan Mulhaupt (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.), improved their scores for the second straight day, shooting 81 (+8) and 76 (+3), respectively. Sophomore Jamie Oliver (Los Alamitos, Calif.) rounded out the group with a three-round total of 252 (+33).

No. 2/3 Georgia won the team title with a three-round total of 874 (-2) to finish as the only school under par. Host No. 10/7 New Mexico came in second, seven strokes behind with a 881 (+5), while No. 18 Pepperdine was third at 882 (+6). Georgia's Kelly Froelich regained her individual lead that she lost to Oklahoma State's Karin Sjodin on Tuesday by shooting a 68 (-5) and finishing with a 209 (-10), four strokes better than Sjodin.

San Diego State takes three weeks off between tournaments before heading to the Price's "Give'em Five" Women's Golf Intercollegiate at New Mexico State's University Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M., Oct. 4-5.

Third-round scores with relation to par Sept. 15, at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, played at the par-73, 6,096-yard UNM Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M.
