SAN DIEGO - San Diego State plays on the road for the first time in 2004, as the Aztecs travel North to face California in a game scheduled for 2 p.m. at Edwards Stadium in Berkeley.

Both teams were in action earlier this week as SDSU (0-1) lost a 1-0 nail biter to No. 13 UCSB on Wednesday, while California (1-0) used a late penalty kick to defeat Sacramento State, 2-1.

SDSU has lost two consecutive games in the series between the schools, but the Aztecs still hold a 10-9-1 lead in the all-time records. The last matchup between the Bears and the Aztecs took place in 1999, with Cal coming away with a hard-fought 2-0 victory.

California is coming off a 11-9-2 season in 2003, which featured a 5-3-2 mark at home. The Bears are picked to finish second in the Pac-10 in a preseason coaches poll, just behind nationally-ranked UCLA.

Cal will be boosted by the experience of 11 returning starters, including second-team All-American forward Carl Acosta. The Bears are coached by Kevin Grimes, who has a 41-37-6 career record in five years at Cal.

Following Saturday's game, the Aztecs travel to UC Riverside on September 9 for a 3 p.m. game.
