SAN DIEGO - Voted San Diego County's defensive player of the year by the San Diego Union Tribune, North County Times, and the CIF, Russell Allen brings an impressive high school career to SDSU. He led the Panthers with 118 tackles, four sacks and four fumble recoveries his senior year. As a linebacker, he led Vista to consecutive Division I championship games. Allen was recruited from Vista High School, the same high school that produced SDSU tight end, Eric Miclot. The two are continuing their football careers at San Diego State together. Once his playing days are over Allen hopes to coach at the collegiate level.

Russell Allen on...

His career best:

Being apart of this great team, it's just an honor to be out here with all of these great athletes, learning what it's like to play at the next level. It's a pretty awesome feeling.

Choosing San Diego State over Colorado State:

I am really close to my parents and I like to be able to see them whenever I can. I just like the whole situation here, everything about it. I like the coaching staff much better. I like their style. They get along well with one another, and the players. They are easy to talk to and easy to ask questions. I had a better overall feeling here.

First week of practice:

It's going pretty well. I am learning a lot, I'm learning a lot more about football in this week than I did all through high school. There's a lot more to it than there is in high school. I'm getting smarter; I'm starting to see things a lot better.

Tuesday's Scrimmage:

It went well, the defense looked great. We played hard, the offense came after us and we all played our hardest...it was fun!

What he hopes to achieve at SDSU:

I want to win as many championships as possible. We are going to come out and play hard, and do whatever we can.

Playing at Qualcomm:

It's going to be awesome...it's going to be fun

The most important person for his self-development:

Jesus Christ

The CD he has in his CD player:

It has been so long since I have even been in my car. I have been at camp for so long I can't even remember. I listen to everything though: country, rap, and rock.

If he were an animal which one would he be?

A cheetah. They are really fast, and I'm a linebacker so that's important.

What motivates him?

Myself, I want to be the best I can be. I love to push myself. I will do anything to do my best.

Favorite movie:

Braveheart is my absolute favorite movie.

High school teammate, Eric Miclot:

He has been a really good friend of mine for a really long time, we hoped all along, when we were being recruited that we would be able to go to the same school. It was perfect because we both got offered here, where it was so close. It's the perfect situation. We are going to be living together on campus.

Favorite Athlete:

Ray Lewis. He's fun to watch, he's awesome, and he's a great linebacker.
