SAN DIEGO - A local product from Oceanside, Calif., Eric Miclot brings an impressive resume to Montezuma Mesa. Miclot was named to the San Diego Union-Tribune and the North County Times' all-San Diego section first team, as well as being an all-league performer on both offense and defense while at Vista HS. The two-time all-academic team member plans to major in history and could see significant time at tight end. Miclot joins his high school teammate, Russell Allen, in this year's recruiting class.

Eric Miclot on...

The first week of practice:

The team is working great. The coaches were saying we're ahead of a lot of other camps. We're working hard and we're trying to get the plays down. We're working hard.

Tuesday's scrimmage:

The whole team was great. The offense moved the ball really well, I was excited about how well the team played.

Choosing San Diego State over other Division I schools:

It's a great place to be. The team, everyone was nice when I came here, everyone just welcomed all of the freshmen. The team is just great and the weather, too.

His expectations for the 2004 season:

We just want to win as many games as we can, we're just excited to play.

Playing close to home:

It's great. My parents can come watch the whole team. It kind of has a home field advantage, so it's nice.

Having dinner with any three people and why:

One, my dad, because he's not here right now, he's in Iraq. Two, Jeremy Shockey, to get some good pointers. And three, my mom, because I love my parents.

If he has any superstitions:

Not really, just wear the same clothes that I normally wear on every Friday or Saturday now.

His favorite professional teams:

Definitely the Chargers because they're in San Diego and I like the Vikings, too.

His pre-game rituals:

I just sit and think about what we're going to do as a team, like how we're going to attack the ball and how we're going to score.

What he does in his free time:

During camp it's pretty much sleep and try to make more friends on the team. Outside of football, I enjoy surfing and snowboarding, but I've been cutting back on that because I don't want to get hurt for football.

Who the most influential people are in his life:

Definitely my mom and my dad because my dad is a great person and so is my mom. They both work hard and they worked hard to give me a pretty good life. I can't complain.
