SAN DIEGO - Regarded as one of the top 120 players in the far west by SuperPrep, Brian Wilson brings size and speed to an already stacked defensive unit. A native of Palmdale, Calif., Wilson was an all-CIF and all-Olympic League selection in 2003 at Paraclete HS. As team captain for the Spirits, the two-sport star recorded 10 quarterback sacks and 60 tackles during his senior year. Wilson plans to major in education with aspirations of becoming a coach in the future.

Brian Wilson on...
The first week of practice:
It's pretty tough. It's a lot different than high school, but I'm liking it. It's really good and it's a challenge. Everyone's good, I can't just dominate everyone. There are a lot of good players here.
The coaching staff:
They're the best coaches I've ever had. They're really great. I'm enjoying the experience. I'm learning more this week than in the last four years of high school.
His expectations for the 2004 season:
I'd like to play, but just contribute in every way possible. I'm not going be heartbroken if I'm not able to play. I just want to help the team and I don't want to sit on the bench either this year. Either way, it'll be good.
Choosing San Diego State over other division I schools:
Family, it's close to home. I couldn't stand being out there in Nebraska. It came down to Fresno State and San Diego State. They both have great coaching staffs, the programs are pretty much at the same place. It came down to San Diego and the area. I had to choose between the cows or the beach and I chose the beach.
What he expects to learn from last year's 8th ranked defense:
Intensity and just learning how to play. They just fly to the football. Everyone is flying around all the time. They're all great players. When you play with great players, you're going to be one.
What's in his CD player:
Tim McGraw
What he does in his free time:
I'm in the weight room.
How much he bench presses:
I can bench press 440 lbs.
If he listens to the Beach Boys: Actually, no, I don't. I get that all the time, though.
His favorite athlete, Muhammad Ali:
He's cocky like me. I just don't like to voice it like he does.
Who he considers the most influential in his life:
My parents. They work so hard to give me everything that I have. They gave me good work ethic and always instilled good morals in me. I want to be like them.
