SAN DIEGO - The 2004 San Diego State football team will enter the next phase of fall camp on Sunday morning when the squad hits the practice field for the first im full pads. The workout is scheduled to begin at 8:40 a.m. at the Aztec practice complex.
The Aztecs opened camp with a full-squad workout on Wednesday evening. Since that time, however, the team has had split workouts, primarily divided by returning players and newcomers. The split-squad workouts were completed on Saturday evening.
"I think we are off to a good start," said head coach Tom Craft. "Offensively,I think we have a chance to be better than the 2002 team because we can be more balanced. We still the need the guys up front to come together for that to happen. We hope that by the completion of the Family Day scrimmage on Saturday we'll have things sorted out enough to know our rotation in the offensive line."
Craft was happy with quarterback Matt Dlugolecki during the Saturday morning workout as the junior led the Aztec offense to a score against SDSU's highly-touted first-team defensive unit that allowed a national-low 17 offensive touchdowns last season.
Among the class of newcomers, the third-year coach has been impressed with freshmen linebackers Andrew Schantz and Russell Allen, along with defensive tackle Brian Wilson.
On the offensive side, Craft cited the new class of tight ends, including freshmen Lance Louis and Eric Miclot, along with walkon Adam Miller.
