DALLAS - San Diego State senior offensive lineman Mike Kracalik is one of 57 players who have been named to the 2004 Outland Trophy Watch List, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) has announced.
The Outland Trophy, which has been presented annually since 1946, is the third oldest trophy in college football. It is awarded to the top interior lineman in college football (tackles, centers, guards) on either side of the ball. The winner will be announced Dec. 9th on the ESPN College Football Awards Show. The winner is selected by a vote of the All-America committee of the FWAA.
Kracalik is a product of Oceanside's El Camino High School. He was a second-team all-Mountain West Conference player a year ago and graded out as San Diego State's best offensive lineman during the course of the 2004 season. Kracalik is one of five players from the Mountain West Conference on the Outland's preseason list.
Kracalik becomes the fourth Aztec to be named to a 2004 watch list. He joins tight end Jeremy Justice (Mackey Award), linebacker Kirk Morrison (Nagurski Award) and center Jasper Harvey (Rimington Award) as national honors candidates for the upcoming season. Several other preseason watch lists have yet to announce their 2004 preseason candidates.
