First Day Of 2004 NCAA Track & Field Championships Suspended Due To Inclement Weather

June 9, 2004

SAN DIEGO - Due to inclement weather, first day action of the 2004 NCAA Track & Field Championships in Austin, Texas, has been suspended Wednesday at the University of Texas' Mike A. Myers Stadium. A revised schedule for Thursday will be released later tonight on the Longhorns' website, www.texassports.com.

Only one event was completed Wednesday - the preliminaries of the women's 4x100-meter relay. Unfortunately for the Aztecs, the quartet of sophomore Larnie Boyd (Vallejo, Calif.), senior Tonette Dyer (Shreveport, La.), junior Heather Heron (Yakima, Wash.) and senior Nicole Ireland (Las Vegas, Nev.) was unable to finish, because of a dropped baton on the exchange between the first and second legs.

Besides the 4x100-relay, Aztecs had been set to compete Wednesday in the qualifying round of the pole vault and the prelims and semifinals of the 100 hurdles and the 100 meters.
