SAN DIEGO - Five Aztecs, including four all-conferecne honorees, were among those selected during the second day of the 2004 Major League player draft. Four seniors and a junior were taken in the middle rounds, led by pitchers Drew Jenson (Cincinnati-19th rd.) and Daryl Harang (Toronto-23rd rd.), outfielders David Hall (Seattle-22nd rd.) and Landon Burt (Minnesota-27th rd.), and first baseman Rielly Embrey (San Diego-23rd rd.).
Jenson earned all-conference honors for the second straight year this past season as he compiled a record of 2-3 with two saves and a 4.68 ERA in 20 relief appearances and two starts. Both of his saves and one win came in league play where he had a 4.45 earned run average over a dozen appearances.
Harang was also an all-MWC selection after going 5-2 with a 5,52 ERA in nine league starts. He finished the year with an overall mark of 6-6 and a 4.34 earned run average.
Embrey batted .353 overall, the second-best average on the squad and led SDSU with 57 runs batted in. He hit .390 in league play and was named to the all-conference squad at the conclusion of the season.
Burt won all-league honors as one of the top defensive outfielders in the Mountain West Conference. He hit .321 as the Aztecs' leadoff hitter with a .432 on-base percentage and a league-leading 30 stolen bases. In conference contests, his average improved to .377.
David Hall, the lone junior of the group, was a back-up outfielder for the Aztecs who batted .254 primarily as a defensive replacement in 43 games. He stole eight-of-nine bases and was flawless defensively in center field.
These five players join closer Ryan Schroyer, who was selected in the fifth round on Monday. In addition, pitcher Scott Shoemaker signed with Boston prior to the draft.
