CHERRY HILL, N.J. - The lightweight eight boat on San Diego State's women's crew team placed fourth in Saturday's petite final to place 10th overall at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association championships, the national championships for women's lightweight rowing.
"We had a great race with one of the best starts of the year to be right with the rest of the crews off the start," head coach Jennifer Zebroski said. "Toward the finish, everybody was pretty much in the pack. In the last 500 meters (of the 2000-meter race), Bucknell got a couple seats on us but we still finished within their boat (3.61 seconds behind), better than our result in yesterday's heats (11.53 seconds and more than a boat behind Bucknell). We're happy with the 10th-place finish overall because we basically remained in the same ranking (as the final USRowing national poll entering the regatta). Next year, we're looking to improve and place in the top eight here.
"This was a great end to a good season," Zebroski said. "I wish good luck to the two seniors on this trip (Stephanie Snaman, rowing from the seven seat, and Amanda Corvera, the alternate)."
The race concludes the 2003-04 season for the SDSU women's crew team and the inaugural campaign for Zebroski.
