SAN DIEGO - Projects to improve the infield and areas in front of the dugouts at SDSU's Tony Gwynn Stadium are underway. Work began in mid-June and is expected to be completed by the second week of July when the baseball program's summer camp is slated to commence.
Major grading and irrigation improvements are being made with new sod being installed in the infield. In addition, the artificial turf that was in place in foul territory from first base around to third base has been removed and new sod will be installed. A new warning track will also be created in front of both dugouts. That warning track will now encircle the entire playing field.
Work is also progressing on the new softball field, which will be located adjacent (and west of) to Tony Gwynn Stadium. The former asphalt driveway located on the west side of TGS will be replaced by a new walkway that will separate the playing facilities. The softball field is expected to be ready for play this fall.
