SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's track & field squad has been ranked 14th in the latest Trackwire 25 national poll, released June 4. The No. 14 ranking is the Aztecs' highest ever and marks an eight spot improvement since occupying the No. 22 slot on May 18.
SDSU made is first ever appearance in the history of the Trackwire 25 poll, which dates back to 1997, on May 4, sharing the No. 19 ranking with fellow Mountain West Conference member Colorado State. The Aztecs improved to 17th on May 11, before dropping to 22nd a week later.
The No. 14 ranking comes on the heels of San Diego State's sixth-place finish at the NCAA West Regional meet in Northridge, Calif. last weekend.
The Trackwire 25 projects a hypothetical score for the NCAA meet and uses a power ranking of the top 12 athletes and relay squads in each NCAA event.
The Aztecs will finish out the collegiate season next week as four individuals and two relays head to Austin, Texas, for the 2004 NCAA championships, June 9-12.
