STANFORD, Calif. - San Diego State ended its season with a 15th place showing at the NCAA west regional after posting a three-day total of 60-over par 924. SDSU shot a final round 311 to earn its best finish ever at the NCAA tournament. It was the third trip in the program's history and the first since 2001.
Junior Heather MacRae led the Aztecs at four-over par 220 to finish in 11th place, the best individual performance and the lowest score ever for SDSU in the NCAA tournament. MacRae shot a two-over 74 on Saturday, with two birdies and four bogeys, after opening with rounds of 75 and 71. MacRae bests SDSU's Hiroko Fukushima who held the previous best individual finish when she placed 18th in 1999.
Freshman Jenna Wilson fired SDSU second best score of the day, a three-over par 75, and finished in 30th with a total of nine-over par 225. Wilson's finish is the third best in SDSU history at the NCAA tournament. Wilson began the day with bogeys on her first three holes but battled back after another bogey on six as she played the last 12 holes in one-under par.
Seniors Shayna Miyajima and Sandy Kim closed the book on their outstanding career's at SDSU. Miyajima posted a final round 80, while Kim shot 82. The two seniors ranked first and second in scoring 2002-03 and combined for 35 top-20 finishes over the past four seasons in the Aztec lineup. Sophomore Toni Lutz rounded out the scoring for SDSU with an 84.
No. 2 UCLA won the event with the top eight teams advancing to the NCAA Championships.
