Box Score

LAS VEGAS - UNLV struck early and often, roughing up three SDSU hurlers in a 15-7 win over San Diego State on a windy Saturday afternoon at Earl E. Wilson Stadium in Las Vegas. With the win, the Rebels improved to 29-18 overall and16-6 in the Mountain West Conference. In the process, they extended their league lead to two games over New Mexico and 2.5 over the Aztecs. The loss dropped San Diego State to 26-26 (13-8 MWC).

Despite out-hitting UNLV 18-14 and scoring in every inning from the third on, SDSU could not overcome three big innings by the home team as the Rebels jumped out to a 7-0 after two innings.

After the Aztecs fought back to make it a 7-3 game, UNLV put up seven runs in the bottom of the fourth, forcing San Diego State to play catch-up the rest of the afternoon.

Starter Daryl Harang (4-5) and relievers Chris Hartshorn and J. T. Zink were unable to contain the Rebel offense as it scored 17 runs on 15 hits against that trio. The Aztecs also allowed four walks and three hit batters with six of those runners scoring.

UNLV starter Jake Vose, who picked up the win to improve to 8-3, spread five runs on 11 hits over his six innings of work as the Aztecs were unable to overcome the early large deficit.

SDSU's' Jake McLintock led the offense with five hits including a double, two RBI and three runs scored. Teammate Brock Ungricht contributed a pair of doubles and a triple while Curt Mendoza and James Guerrero had two runs batted in apiece.

San Diego State and UNLV conclude their three-game weekend series on Sunday (May 9) with game time set for noon.
