SAN DIEGO - San Diego State softball third baseman Kelcy Murphy (San Diego, Calif.) was named to the Academic All-District VIII softball team, awarded by CoSIDA. The senior art major is carrying a 3.31 GPA.
Murphy is leading the Aztecs with four homers and 35 RBI, while her .465 slugging percentage ranks third on the squad. She currently has 102 career RBI, which is tied for the school record with Erryn Gutjahr (1996-99).
Murphy was named Mountain West Conference player of the week on April 13 for hitting .455 with a .909 slugging percentage in four games, two each versus Colorado State and New Mexico. On May 1, she tied a school record with three doubles against UNLV in the first game of a doubleheader at UNLV and then followed that up with a three-single performance in game two.
San Diego State plays in a MWC semifinal game at 2 p.m. MDT on Friday against the winner of an earlier BYU/New Mexico game. The winner advances to Saturday's championship game, slated for a 2 p.m. start.
