SUNRIVER, Ore. - San Diego State shot a final round four-over par 292 on Saturday to finish fourth at the MWC Championship in Sunriver, Ore. The Aztecs finished with a 10-over par total of 874, seven-strokes behind New Mexico and BYU, who tied for the 54-hole final score with UNM earning a one-stroke win on the first playoff hole, and one stroke back of UNLV. Senior Mark Warman highlighted the tournament as he posted a nine-under 209 to finish second as an individual. The Aztecs, ranked No. 42 in the country, entered the tournament with the fifth highest ranking.
Warman shot a final round two-under 70, including an eagle on the second hole, to maintain his second-place position. Warman finished three strokes behind medalist Ryan Moore of UNLV, who is the second ranked player in the country. The senior opened the weekend with a 69 and followed with a 70 on Friday. It is the second runner-up finish at the MWC Championship in three years for Warman as he fell one stroke short of the title as a sophomore in 2002.
Freshman Aaron Goldberg also had a strong showing for SDSU as he shot his second consecutive one-over 73 to move into the top 10 with a four-over par 220 total. It is the second straight top 10 finish for Goldberg after winning the U.S. Intercollegiate.
Andrew Scott also improved his standing on the leaderboard in the final round with a 73 and finished in 11th at 221. Jeff Hansen earned an 18th place position after shooting 76 on Saturday to post 224.
SDSU will await an invitation to the NCAA Regional tournament as the field will be announced on Monday, May 3.
