COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. - San Diego State scored seven times in the third inning and went on to a 13-1 victory over Air Force in a game that was shortened to five innings due to weather. Playing in snow flurries over the final three innings, the Aztecs recorded a dozen hits off five Falcon pitchers en route to the victory. The game was slated as the first of a doubleheader, but weather forced the postponement of the second contest.
San Diego State (19-20; 8-2 MWC) got on the board in the first with a single run when Rielly Embrey singled home Landon Burt, who had walked to open the inning, from second.
In the third, SDSU sent 12 men to the plate, scoring seven times on five hits. Burt had a pair of singles in the inning and scored once. James Guerrero added a two-run double and Chad Corona hit his third homer of the year, a two-run shot over the left field fence into a stiff breeze.
Guerrero ended the afternoon with three hits, a run scored and two runs batted in. Kyle Floquet (two RBI), Jake McLintock and Landon Burt also contributed two hits apiece.
Senior right-hander Scott Shoemaker (6-5) held Air Force in check over five innings, allowing a run on three hits, striking out five and walking none as he picked up his fifth straight win. Falcon starter Paul Vignola suffered the loss to fall to 1-6.
San Diego State and Air Force will resume their three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 10, with the first game scheduled to start at noon.
