SAN DIEGO - The 31st-ranked Oregon women's tennis team received victories from its two nationally-ranked singles players to record a 4-3 victory over 71st-ranked San Diego State on Saturday afternoon at the SDSU Courts.
The Aztecs took the first point of the match by claiming the doubles point. SDSU's number two duo of Dita Hauerlandova and Alesya Vidov improved to 14-2 this season with an 8-1 victory. The top Aztec duo of Katalina Romero and Indra Erichsen, ranked 25th nationally, knocked off 49th-ranked Courtney Nagle and Daria Panova to clinch the doubles point.
Oregon bounced back to win the first three singles matches, including two victories by nationally-ranked players. The Ducks tied the score at one when eighth-ranked Panova didn't loose a game at number one singles. The 56th-ranked singles player, Dominika Dieskova, gave Oregon a lead with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at number two. Ester Bak put the Ducks up 3-1 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at number six singles.
The Aztecs responded by winning the next two matches. Erichsen improved to 14-8 this season with a 7-5, 6-2 victory at number three and Vidov is now 15-7 on the campaign following a 6-1, 6-4 victory at number four.
In the deciding match, Anna Leksinska broke Patricia Graf in the final game of the third set to record a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 victory.
The Aztecs are back in action tomorrow when SDSU plays host to 51st-ranked Tulsa. Match time is set for 10 a.m. PDT.
