SUNRIVER, Ore. - San Diego State posted its best score ever in conference tournament action, but it was not good enough this year as the Aztecs finished fourth with a total of 885. The Aztecs shot a final round eight-over 292, duplicating Friday's score, but was unable to gain ground on the top three. UNLV earned the win by shooting four-over 856, breaking New Mexico's four-year hold on the championship.
SDSU broke the previous school record for conference score of 887 which was set by the 2001 Aztecs, when they finished second at the MWC Championships.
Jenna Wilson was the Aztecs top performer as she carded a two-over par 215 to finish fifth, the low freshman in the field. Wilson shot 71 on Friday and Saturday after opening with a two-over 73. Wilson has recorded top-five finishes in each of her last three events and five times this season.
Heather MacRae finished the tournament in 12th place after shooting 75 for a 220 total. MacRae got off to a rough start with a triple-bogey on the first hole, but had it back to one-over par with six holes to play but could not hold up down the stretch.
Sophomore Toni Lutz fired a career-best 73 to finish 20th after tallying 226 for the tournament. Lutz birdied three of the final four holes on Saturday to finish strong. Lutz entered the tournament having played in only one tournament all year and ended up posting the best finish of her career.
Senior Shayna Miyajima also shot 73 on Saturday and finished at 224 to place 18th, while fellow classmate Sandy Kim shot 75 to finish at 237.
SDSU will find out on Monday, April 26, if they have qualified for the NCAA Regionals, which begin May 6.
