No. 5 SDSU Finishes Regular Season With Two Home Contests

SAN DIEGO - No. 5 San Diego State will play its final two regular season games Saturday as it hosts Cal Baptist and Cal State Northridge at the Kroc Community Center pool. It will also be senior day for the six members in the Aztecs' 2004 class. A cermony will be held prior to the final game of the day. The Aztecs start the day by playing Cal Baptist for the second time this season at 9 a.m. before facing Cal State Northridge at 5 p.m. for the third time. SDSU opened the year with a 6-5 win over Cal Baptist, and have won the previous two meetings over CSUN this season, 7-3 at the UC Davis Tournament and 9-8 in overtime last Sunday.
Last weekend, SDSU went 4-1 to improve to 23-7 on the season. The win over UCSD in the Harper Cup gave the Aztecs 20+ wins for the fourth straight season and eighth time in the 10-year history of the program. SDSU needs just two wins to post its second most victories ever, passing the 1995 squad's 24-8 mark.

Recapping Last Week's Action
* San Diego State won its third straight Harper Cup matchup over its cross town rival UCSD, 9-4. Holly Hartzell led SDSU with a hat trick, while Ashley Zabel made eight saves and recorded four steals.
* The Aztecs went 3-1 at the LBSU tournament earning wins over UC Irvine, Pacific, and Cal State Northridge before falling to No. 1 USC.
* Hartzell and Sandy Onwller both scored twice in the 6-5 win over UCI.
* The freshman class led SDSU to a 10-4 victory against Pacific. Ashley Reta scored three times and Stacy Werner recorded a goal and an SDSU season-high seven steals. Sarah Kilgore made her first start in the cage and recorded seven saves.
* Holly Hartzell tied a career high with six goals in the Aztecs' 9-8 overtime win over CSU Northridge. Kristen Moore notched the game-winner in the extra session to give SDSU a perfect 4-0 mark in overtime games this season.
* No. 1 USC defeated the Aztecs for the second time in two weeks, earning a 10-3 victory. USC jumped out to a 7-1 halftime lead and SDSU could not make a comeback against the unbeaten Women of Troy.

Delgado Seeks Assist Record
* Junior Dominique Delgado has excelled the past two weeks as she has posted seven goals, seven assists and 10 steals in the last six Aztec games. In addition, Delagado has scored eight goals in her last seven outings after posting only four scores in the her first 21 games.
* Delgado has become the second Aztec in school history to record 40 assists in a season after posting five last weekend. She needs only four more to break Amber Prestegard's record of 43, set in 2001. She has posted at least one assist in 21 games and multiple assists 13 times.
* Delgado is in third place on SDSU's career assist chart with 81. She is closing in on Hartzell for second place all-time and is currently four behind her teammate.
* Delgado has registered a career-high 36 steals this season to give her 100 during her three years, which already ranks 10th on the career list. With seven more steals Delgado will move into eighth place on the all-time list.

Hartzell Climbing Up Career Charts
* Senior Holly Hartzell tied a career high with six goals in the 9-8 win over CSUN on Sunday. Hartzell's also scored six goals in a victory over Hartwick during her freshman year. She finished with 11 scores in four games over the weekend.
* Hartzell continues to increase her career scoring record, which she set at the UC Davis tournament earlier in the year. Hartzell leads the Aztecs with 49 goals this season and has scored 270 times during her career. She is already the first Aztec to post three 60-goal seasons and needs only 11 more to hit the mark in all four years at SDSU.
* Hartzell is not only an offensive threat but also leads the 2004 Aztecs with 49 steals. She is third in career steals with 203 and needs 17 more to move into second place.
* Hartzell was awarded MPSF player of the week honors on Feb. 24 for posting 12 goals at the UC Davis tournament and breaking the scoring record.
* Hartzell ranks second in career assists with 85 after tallying 16 this season.

Onweller Scoring Big
* Senior Sandy Onweller has recorded a career high 47 goals this season. Onweller is looking to become the seventh Aztec with a 60-goal season. She also is second on the squad with 28 assists.
* Onweller was named the MPSF player of the week on March 15 after her eight goals propelled the Aztecs to four wins, including victories over No. 6 Cal and No. 4 Long Beach State.

Zabel is Able
* Ashley Zabel recorded 15 saves in three games over the weekend to boost her season total to 134. Zabel ranks second on SDSU's all-time list with 523 saves.
* Zabel is second in the MPSF with a 4.41 goals against average.

Scouting Cal Baptist
* Cal Baptist is 22-12 on the season and is riding a four-game winning streak into Saturday's match with SDSU. The Aztecs met the Lancers in the first game of the year and earned a 6-5 victory to improve to 6-2 in the all-time series.
* Senior Holly Curran leads the Lancers with an amazing 97 goals and 37 assists.

Scouting No. 16 Cal State Northridge
* Cal State Northridge enters the weekend with an 18-13 record, winning four of its last six games. SDSU needed overtime to earn a 9-8 win over the Matadors last Sunday after picking up a 7-3 win at the UC Davis tournament.
* The Matadors are led by senior 2M Pam Barba who has 46 goals and 118 steals. Megan Icanberry and Graziella Caredda split time in the cage.

Looking Ahead
* SDSU will head to the MPSF Tournament, which begins April 30 at Long Beach. The Aztecs have earned the No. 4 seed and a first round bye after posted a school-record 8-3 mark during the regular season. SDSU will face the winner of the No. 5 Long Beach State/No. 12 Pacific game.
