STANFORD, Calif. - San Diego State is in second place after two rounds at the U.S. Intercollegiate in Stanford, Calif. The Aztecs fired rounds of 283 and 286 for a one-over par total of 569. The Aztecs are 10 strokes off the pace set by UCLA, who is ranked third in the country. SDSU's Aaron Goldberg is tied for the overall lead after firing 68 and 70 to finish the day at four-under 138. The action concludes with 18-holes on Sunday.
SDSU enters the tournament ranked NO. 48 in the country after finishing 16th last weekend at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational, but are now at least six strokes ahead of 17 teams in the field including No. 7 Texas and No. 17 California.
Goldberg has one victory this season at the Aztec Battle at the Lakes where he competed as an individual. His best result in a varsity competition is 20th at the Oregon Duck Invitational.
Senior Mark Warman, the defending champion of the tournament, sits three strokes out of first place at one-under 141 and is in ninth place. Warman opened with a one-over 72 before shooting 69 in the afternoon. Warman set the course record last season when he fired a 62 in the second round.
Junior Aaron Choi and sophomore Andrew Scott are tied for 21st at three-over par 145. Choi continued his solid play shooting 71 and 74, while Scott posted scores of 72 and 73.
San Diego State finished third at last year's event which is hosted by Stanford University.
