SAN DIEGO - The 59th-ranked Washington State women's tennis team handed 47th-ranked San Diego State a 5-2 loss on Friday afternoon in Seattle, Wash.
The Cougars claimed the doubles point with an upset victory at number one doubles. Lorena Arias and Zsofia Fodor defeated 13th-ranked Katalina Romero and Indra Erichsen of San Diego State, 8-4. The Aztecs bright spot in doubles came at number two, when Dita Hauerlandova and Alesya Vidov posted an 8-1 win.
San Diego State won singles matches at number one and number four. Hauerlandova, ranked 81st nationally, completed a perfect day with a 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 victory over Orsolya Sallai at number one. Alesya Vidov was the other Aztec winner in singles with a 7-6, 6-3 victory at number four singles.
The Cougars claimed two of the three three-set matches to clinch the match. The Aztecs fall to 3-5 while the Cougars improve to 3-5. San Diego State will face eighth-ranked Washington on Saturday.
