SAN DIEGO - San Diego State junior Heather McRae was named Mountain West Conference Women's Golfer of the Month for March after posting top-10 finishes in both Aztec tournaments. MacRae recorded a career best second place finish at the at the Dr. Thompson Invitational in Kaneohe, Hawai'i where she shot a five-over 221 (72-77-72), and led SDSU to a runner-up finish. She followed that performance with a seventh place finish at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz. where she fired an identical five-over 221 (75-72-74). For the month, McRae had a 73.67 stroke average over the two tournaments and lowered her season average to 75.55.
MacRae leads SDSU with four top-10 finishes on the year, and has also posted five top-20 finishes in the last six tournaments. MacRae's 75.00 stroke average for the spring leads SDSU.
SDSU now has four different golfers on the active roster who have won the award in their career. In the fall, Jenna Wilson earned the award in Oct., marking the first time two different individuals have earned the award for SDSU in a single season. Last season, Shayna Miyajima won the award in March as a junior, and Sandy Kim was named the golfer of the month in March of 2002.
The Aztecs have finished in the top five in each of their past two tournaments and will look to make it three in a row next week at the BYU-Utah Dixie Classic on Apr. 5-6 in St. George, Utah.
