14th-ranked BYU Women's Tennis Defeats SDSU, 6-1

SAN DIEGO - The 14th-ranked Brigham Young women's tennis team defeated 67th-ranked San Diego State 6-1 in the conference opener for both teams on Friday morning in Las Vegas.

The Cougars won the doubles point on the strength of an upset win at number one with Barbara Zahnova and Sofia Holden recording an 8-6 win over 25th-ranked Katalina Romero and Indra Erichsen.

In singles play, Brigham Young won five of the six matches. The lone Aztec victory came at number four when Alesya Vidov defeated Olga Boulytcheva, 6-7, 6-2, and 12-10 in the super-tiebreaker.

San Diego State, 4-9 overall and 0-1 in Mountain West Conference play, will battle Utah in Las Vegas on Saturday.
