SAN DIEGO - The 2004 San Diego State football season is guaranteed to open with a bang. The Aztecs will make their debut on Sept. 4 against San Jose State at 6 p.m. The game will be followed by the popular KGB Skyshow at Qualcomm Stadium, presented by Barona Valley Ranch Resort & Casino.
The annual fireworks show burst onto the local scene in 1976 and quickly became a San Diego tradition. In 2001, 1998 and 1997, the KGB Skyshow helped the Padres draw over 60,000 fans for a game. Those crowds were among the biggest in Major League Baseball for each of those seasons.
"We are very excited about this next chapter in KGB Skyshow history," said Mike Glickenhaus of Clear Channel Communications, parent company of KGB. "Partnering the legendary Skyshow, in its 29th year, with the Aztecs football program under Tom Craft, combines two San Diego traditions. Both have lit up the night many times before and now this combination will really rock the Q."
The game and Skyshow will be preceded by the Skyshow Village, now in its sixth year. The Village provides a fun, interactive event for adults and children. It will open at noon on Sept. 4th.
Fans can register at 101KGB.com or goaztecs.com for tickets to the Aztecs-Spartans game. Single-game tickets will not officially go on sale until June as San Diego State conducts its season-ticket drive for 2004.
San Diego State's last crowd of more than 50,000 at Qualcomm Stadium came in 1992 when the Aztecs hosted defending national champion Miami.
