SAN DIEGO - Loyola Marymount's Carla Arguelles rallied from one-set down and won 12 of the final 14 games of her match at number one singles to lift Loyola Marymount women's tennis team to a 4-3 victory over San Diego State on Wednesday afternoon at the SDSU Courts.
The Aztecs, which fell to 4-8 on the season, have lost consecutive matches by one-point and suffered the third 4-3 loss of the season. The Lions improved to 5-8 this season.
San Diego State claimed the doubles point, getting the clinching victory from the number one doubles team of Katalina Romero and Indra Erichsen.
The Lions quickly took the lead winning straight-set matches at number five and six singles. Patrycia Hubl and Tamara Tanner won at number five and six singles, respectively. SDSU tied the score at two when Alesya Vidov recorded a 6-1, 6-4 victory at number four singles.
Loyola Marymount retook the lead with a victory by Robyn Baker at number two, only to have the Aztecs ride an Erichsen victory at number three to knot the score at three.
Trailing by a set and down 5-1 in the second, LMU's Arguelles rallied to claim a 7-5 victory in the second set. With all other matches complete and members of both teams watching the number one court, Arguelles claimed the win, taking the third set, 6-2.
Next up San Diego State travels to Las Vegas to open conference play in a pair of neutral site matches against Brigham Young on Friday and Utah on Saturday.
