SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State softball team (18-16) won a pair of games in Friday's play at the San Diego Classic. The Aztecs topped Southern Utah (15-9) in five innings, 8-0, and Indiana (12-12), 7-3. Shortstop Meagan Hartung (San Diego, Calif.) continued her red-hot hitting, going 5-for-7 with two doubles and six runs scored, raising her season average to .392. Left fielder Erin Mahoney (Westchester, Calif.) also saw her quality hitting continue, going 4-for-5 on the day with two runs and three RBI. After breaking out of a 0-for-17 drought in the March 9 game against Florida, she has gone 10-of-21 (.476).

The Aztec pitching staff continued its dominant performance and has not allowed an earned run in 24-2/3 innings. In today's games, Celena Velasquez (Tucson, Ariz.) threw a five-inning shutout against Southern Utah, while Deanna Richards (Visalia, Calif.) allowed no earned runs in SDSU's 7-3 victory over Indiana.

San Diego State's bats were on fire in the Southern Utah game as SDSU compiled 13 hits, tying a team season high (originally set in an 8-4 victory over Hawai'i on Feb. 21). Hartung led the pack with three hits. Mahoney, second baseman Joann Figueroa (Phoenix, Ariz.) and designated player Bree Boyer (Huntington Beach, Calif.) had two each, while four others added one each.

Hartung led off the Aztec first with the first of her two doubles and first baseman Kelcy Murphy (San Diego, Calif.) homered over the left field fence to give SDSU a 2-0 lead. Figueroa drove in two in the third with a single to right. In the fourth, right fielder Bridgette Caron (Fallbrook, Calif.) and Hartung led off with doubles. Hartung drove in the second run of the inning with a sac fly. The Aztecs ended the game via the eight-run mercy rule with two more runs in the fifth with RBI singles by Mahoney and center fielder Janna Kovensky (San Diego, Calif.).

Against Indiana, Hartung and Mahoney once again led the hitting attack with both going 2-for-3. Hartung scored three runs and Mahoney with one run and two RBI. Six other Aztecs added one hit each.

SDSU took a quick advantage with a two-run first and three more tallies in the second. Single runs in the fifth and sixth put the game away.
