SAN DIEGO - The Purdue women's tennis team won three of the bottom four singles matches to claim a 4-3 victory over San Diego State on Tuesday at the SDSU Courts.
The 53rd-ranked Boilermakers won the doubles point and claimed singles victories at three, four and six to improve to 5-6 on the season. The Aztecs, ranked 61st nationally, posted wins at singles positions one, two and five.
San Diego State got a victory at number one doubles from 30th-ranked Indra Erichsen and Katalina Romero. The Aztec duo improved to 12-4 on the season with an 8-1 victory. Purdue earned the doubles team point with victories at number two and three doubles.
SDSU quickly took the lead with victories in the top two singles positions. At number one, Dita Hauerlandova was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over Gretchen Haynor, while Romero was a 6-3, 6-2 winner against Amy Walgenbach at number two. The Boilermakers won the next three singles matches, clinching the team victory at number three when Hala Sufi defeated Erichsen, 6-4, 6-2. San Diego State's Patricia Graf was credited with a victory at number five to provide the final margin.
The Aztecs are back in action next Wednesday when San Diego State will play host to Loyola Marymount.
