Colorado Springs, Colo. - San Diego State senior right-hander Scott Shoemaker has been named the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Shoemaker, from San Diego, Calif. (Granite Hills HS/Grossmont JC/Long Beach State), tossed a complete-game shutout last week as the Aztecs defeated Houston, 4-0, in the first-ever game played at the newly constructed PETCO Park in San Diego. Shoemaker struck out a career-high 14 batters and allowed just three hits.
The game between the Aztecs and Cougars set the NCAA single-game attendance mark with 40,106, breaking the mark of 27,673 set at the Louisiana Superdome on April 10, 2002.
San Diego State opens its 2004 Mountain West Conference season this weekend with a three-game series vs. Air Force beginning Friday (March 19) at 6:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
