FRESNO, Calif. - The San Diego State softball team fell to No. --/25 Long Beach State, 1-0, on Sunday at the Clovis Auto Row Softball Classic. Pitcher Deanna Richards (Visalia, Calif.) allowed one run in seven innings of work and 11 at the tournament. Center fielder Erin Mahoney (Westchester, Calif.) was named to the all-tournament team for her stellar performance throughout the weekend, hitting .417 (5-for-12).
Long Beach State strung together three singles in the second to bring around the lone run of the game.
San Diego State had their best chances for a tying run in the fifth and sixth innings. Designated player Bree Boyer (Huntington Beach, Calif.) led off the fifth with a single down the left field line and moved to second on a bunt, but the Aztecs were unable to get her home. In the sixth, second baseman Joann Figueroa (Phoenix, Ariz.) had a one-out single and advanced to second with two gone, but was stranded on third.
San Diego State hosts No. 6/t7 Oklahoma at 3 p.m. on Tuesday before co-hosting the San Diego Classic with the University of San Diego this coming weekend.
