SDSU Softball Pitcher Earns MWC Pitcher of the Week Honors

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State softball pitcher Cori Janelli (Visalia, Calif.) has been awarded Mountain West Conference pitcher of the week honors for her performance at the SDSU Tournament last weekend. She tossed a two-hit shutout in a 6-0 victory over Nevada on Friday before following that up on Sunday with a three-hit shutout against Cal Poly, 3-0. In both games, she took a no-hitter into the fifth inning with one out before allowing a single.

Janelli, a junior college transfer from the College of Sequoias, has thrown 18.1 consecutive scoreless innings and has allowed one earned run in her last 37.1 innings of work. Prior to the hot streak, her ERA stood at 3.09. It is now 1.01.

Janelli and the Aztecs host No. 23/21 Florida at 3 p.m. on Tuesday before heading to the Clovis Auto Row Softball Classic in Fresno, Calif., for games Thursday-Sunday. Match-ups with No. 15/17 Fresno State, No. 25/19 Oregon State, North Texas, No. 1/1 UCLA and Long Beach State await the Aztecs.
