SDSU Crew Spring Season Commences
* The San Diego State women's crew team starts its 2004 season on Saturday with the Parker Cup Regatta held at La Balonia Creek in Marina Del Rey, Calif. The SDSU lightweights also face San Diego and UC San Diego in a scrimmage at Mission Bay in San Diego on Sunday.
* The Aztecs will be sending four squads to the Parker Cup: novice four (10 a.m. start time), novice eight (10:30 a.m.), second varsity eight (10:45 a.m.) and varsity eight (11:30 a.m.).
* The SDSU lightweight eight boat will face off with the University of San Diego and UC San Diego at 6:45 a.m. on Sunday.
SDSU rowers wraps up fall season
* San Diego State finished up the fall portion of its schedule with the San Diego Fall Classic on Nov. 9. The novice four boat finished first, while the three SDSU eight boats finished 1st, 2nd and 6th in the open eight and the two novice eight boats finished 1st and 5th.
* SDSU's time of 28:57 in the 3.5-mile course gave the novice four boat first place of three, beating out UC Santa Barbara (31:33) and ZLAC (32:31).
* The three varsity boats finished in 1st (22:27), 2nd (22:44) and 6th (24:27) in the open eight race.
* The novice eight boats finished 1st (22:45) and 5th (24:24). Loyola Marymount (24:18), San Diego (24:21) and UC San Diego (24:23) finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th, respectively.
Heisinger Looks to Build on Positive Fall
* A walk-on freshman from Temecula, Calif., Katie Heisinger contributed to the success of the novice boat in the fall, including a win at the San Diego Fall Classic.
* "Katie has been an excellent athlete all year," head coach Jennifer Zebroski said. "She picked up the sport of rowing really quickly and has proven to be a great asset to the novice boat as well as the whole team. She has a positive attitude and a great work ethic, which has made her an excellent addition to the team."
* Heisinger's novice boat will race at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday at the Parker Cup.
Looking to the rest of the spring
* San Diego State will continue spring racing with its Alumni and Family Day on March 13 and the prestigious San Diego Crew Classic from April 3-4. On April 17, the Aztecs face other San Diego programs, San Diego and UC San Diego at the San Diego City Championships. The alumni day, San Diego Crew Classic and the city championships all take place at Mission Bay.
* The Aztecs then travel back to Marina Del Rey, Calif., for the Miller Cup Regatta on April 24, before heading to Sacramento, Calif., for the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships will take place from May 1-2, the Pacific Coast Rowing Champion-ships May 15 and the Pac-10 Championships May 16.
