SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The San Diego State softball team (11-10) split a doubleheader at UC Santa Barbara (12-11) on Sunday afternoon. The Gauchos picked up a 4-3 victory in game one with an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh, but the Aztecs rebounded to win game two by a 5-1 count.

In game two, pitcher Deanna Richards (Visalia, Calif.) carried a perfect game into the fifth with two outs and a no-hitter into the seventh with one out, before finishing with a two-hit victory.

SDSU immediately put the game into their favor with four runs in the second. Richards led off the frame with a homer to left center, her first of the season and the sophomore's second career round-tripper. First baseman Lacey Craft (Valley Center, Calif.) then singled to left center, which was followed by an RBI double from right fielder Bridgette Caron (Fallbrook, Calif.), her first extra-base hit of the season and second of the sophomore's career. Left fielder Bree Boyer (Huntington Beach, Calif.) singled in Caron and second baseman Joann Figueroa (Phoenix, Ariz.) scored on a wild pitch for SDSU's fourth run of the inning.

The Aztecs added to their lead in the fourth when Boyer doubled in Caron, who had reached on a bunt single.

Boyer, Caron and Figueroa led the Aztec hitting attack with two hits each.

The Aztecs grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the first inning of game one before UC Santa Barbara tied the game with two of their own in the second. A single tally in the third gave UCSB a 3-2 lead until a Gaucho error in the sixth allowed SDSU to tie the game, 3-3.

Shortstop Meagan Hartung (San Diego, Calif.) went 2-for-2 to lead the Aztec offense in game one.

San Diego State hosts the SDSU Tournament from March 5-7, with games at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. each day.
