Hartzell Named MPSF Player Of The Week

Feb. 24, 2004

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State senior Holly Hartzell earned MPSF Player of the Week honors after breaking the school's career scoring record and leading the Aztecs to a 4-0 record and the UC Davis Shootout championship. Hartzell scored 12 goals on the weekend to give her 241 goals in just over three seasons at SDSU, breaking the old record of 235 set by Larisa Baltgalvis (1997-00). Hartzell tops SDSU with 20 goals this season to lead the Aztecs to an 8-1 record, the program's best start in school history.

Hartzell led SDSU in scoring in three of the four games this week including a season high four scores against Cal State Bakersfield. In addition, Hartzell also tallied three assists to move into second place on SDSU's all-time assist list with 72.

The UC Davis Shootout victory was also the first out right tournament championship in the 10 year history of the water polo program. SDSU will play its first home match of the year on Thursday, Feb. 24, when it takes on MPSF foe Hawai'i at 6 p.m. at the Kroc Community Center.
