Box Score

POWAY, Calif. - The San Diego State softball team ran into a magnificent pitching performance at the Campbell/Cartier Classic in Poway, Calif., on Saturday night. Aztec third baseman Meagan Hartung (San Diego, Calif.) led off the seventh with a single to break up Husky pitcher Tia Bollinger's no-hit attempt, but the Aztecs fell to No. t4/5 Washington, 7-0.

Aztec starting pitcher Celena Velasquez (Tucson, Ariz.) ran into significant trouble for the first time in her sophomore season, allowing five runs, all earned, in her five innings of work. The 2003 Mountain West Conference pitcher and freshman of the year had not allowed more than one earned run in any appearance thus far this season.

The Huskies scored two runs in the first, three in the fifth and two more in the seventh to put the game away.

San Diego State earlier in the night defeated Iowa State, 4-0, behind a two-hit complete-game pitching performance from Cori Janelli (Visalia, Calif.). It was her first shutout as an Aztec after transferring from the College of Sequoias.

The Aztecs return to action at the Campbell/Cartier Classic with a pair of games on Saturday: versus Hawai'i at 3:30 p.m. and then facing off with Auburn at 5 p.m. SDSU's tournament play wraps up with a 9 a.m. game on Sunday against Loyola (Ill.).
