WAHIAWA, HAWAII - San Diego State men's golf team opened the spring season with a five-under par round of 283 at the John Burns Intercollegiate in Wahiawa, Hawaii. SDSU is in a tie for eighth place but is only seven strokes behind first place New Mexico. Junior Linus Nilsson led SDSU in the first round by firing a three-under 69. All four counting scores for the Aztecs were at level par or better.
Nilsson posted a solid start to the spring, after not leading the Aztecs in any round during the fall competition. Fellow junior Aaron Choi also broke par with a two-under 70. Senior Mark Warman and freshman Aaron Goldberg posted the final two scores for SDSU at even par 72, while Andrew Scott was only one stroke back with a 73.
SDSU has had the past two individual champions at the Burns Intercollegiate and has finished first and second, respectively, the last two seasons.
The 54-hole tournament continues with 18 holes on Thursday and finishes with the final round on Friday.
