Hartshorn Named Conference Pitcher Of The Week

Feb. 16, 2004

Colorado Springs, Colo. - San Diego State senior right-hander Chris Hartshorn has been named the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week for his performance in last Sunday's 4-0 win at Santa Clara.

Hartshorn, from Eden Prairie, Minn. (Eden Prairie HS), tossed a complete-game shutout vs. the Broncos, allowing just three hits over nine innings, while striking out four and walking one.

Santa Clara's leadoff hitter opened the contest with a double, but was stranded at second base. No Bronco base runner advanced past first over the final eight innings as Hartshorn allowed just two singles and a walk the rest of the way. SDSU's defense helped his cause, turning inning-ending double plays in both the fifth and eighth innings.

Hartshorn faced only two batters over the minimum as he improved his record to 3-1 and lowered his team-leading earned run average to 2.54.

The Aztecs continue play this weekend as they travel to Los Angeles for the Public Storage Classic at USC where they will face 10th-ranked Notre Dame on Friday (Feb. 20) at 2:00 p.m. at Dedeaux Field.
