SDSU Women's Soccer Signs Seven

SAN DIEGO -San Diego State women's soccer interim head coach Angela Morrison announced today the signing of seven student-athletes to national letters of intent. Joining the 2004 squad will be Kelly Carter, Casey Davidson, Melissa Deckers, Jenae Gibbens, Kristin Klunder, Alicia Piz and Nakita Westrich.

"The recruiting class of 2004 brings a great deal of playing experience and athleticism to our program," Morrison said. "We are expecting them to positively impact the team by challenging our current student-athletes for playing time from day one. We are very excited about the future of women's soccer at San Diego State University".

Carter (Claremont, Calif.) is a multi-sport scholar-athlete who competes in volleyball, track and field and soccer for Claremont High School. She is a starting defender for OJSC (Orange Junior Soccer Club) and intends to pursue a degree in kinesiology at SDSU.

Davidson (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) is a forward from Mira Costa High School, which won the 2003 Bay League title. She is a starting forward for the U-19 WCFC (West Coast Futbol Club) and interested in studying sports medicine at SDSU.

Deckers (Valencia, Calif.) is a four-year letterwinner and starting goalkeeper and captain for the Hart High School Indians. Last season, she was named first team all-Foothill League and earned honorable mention all-league honors her sophomore year. A member of the West Valley Samba soccer club and four-year scholar-athlete at HHS, she plans to major in communications at SDSU.

Gibbens (San Diego) is an eight-year member of the Rancho Santa Fe Attack soccer club. She was an Olympic Development State pool selection in 2000, 2001 and 2003, while being selected to the regional pool in 2003. She plays basketball only at Mount Carmel High School and was named defensive MVP in 2002-03.

Klunder (La Mirada, Calif.) is the sister of Aztec sophomore Jen Klunder. Kristin Klunder was named offensive MVP at La Mirada High School in 2001 and 2002 and helped lead the squad to the 2003 CIF quarterfinals. Her 65 goals and 57 assists at LMHS are third on the school's career scoring list. She and Carter are club teammates with OJSC.

Piz (Morrison, Colo.) is a starting midfielder/forward for the Dakota Ridge High School Eagles. She helped lead the 2003 squad to the 5A state championship and in the process earned all-state honorable mention honors. A member of state champions Real Colorado, she competed in the Far West regional club championships in 2003. Piz was a state and regional ODP selection from 2000-02. Her intended major at SDSU is zoology.

Westrich (Phoenix, Ariz.) played defender and was the captain at Mountain Pointe High School and helped the Pride advance to the state quarterfinals. She is a starting defender with 2003 state cup finalist Del Sol Extreme Heat.
