Swimmers Take Third Place at UCI Invitational Relay Meet

Irvine, Calif. - The San Diego State swim team capped off its weekend in Irvine by finishing third at the UCI/Country Inn & Suites Relay Invitational on Sunday. The Aztecs, who recorded 13 top-five placings on the day, compiled 358 points to fall just 10 points short of second-place Nebraska in the seven-team meet. The host UC Irvine Anteaters won with a total of 409 points over the 10 events. The relay meet featured five standard races plus five other special relays.

In the traditional, SDSU's top relay teams took second in both the 800 freestyle (7:50.19) and 400 freestyle (3:34.94) events. Aztec foursomes also finished fourth in the 200 medley (1:53.81), 200 freestyle (1:41.33) and 400 medley (4:08.68) races.

In the non-traditional events, San Diego State garnered second and fourth-place finishes in the 800 free relay event that consisted of 100, 200 and 500 free legs in 8:01.91 and 8:04.26 respectively. It also had the number-two finish in the 3x100 individual medley relay (3:09.35).

In addition, Aztec trios were third in both the 3x100 breaststroke (3:27.98) and 3x100 butterfly (3:05.86), and took fourth in the 3x100backstroke (3:06.14).

Up next for San Diego State is a trip to the islands where they will take on the University of Hawai'i in Honolulu this Friday (Jan. 9) at 6:00 p.m. (HST).
